Do I risk not having a strong enough signal to use my personal wifi hotspot?
Orrr…
Do I go the safe route and waive an opportunity to explore nature following the session?
I didn’t have any reason to believe that this risk would be too high seeing that I was only 15 minutes drive from Wichita Falls and that there weren’t any sudden Texas mountains that had sprung up since my last time through so…
As you can see I chose the park and took the exit. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have anything to write about regarding this.
Glad I did!

WILL I NEED A LICENSE TO CATCH FISH?
You can find the answer to this and all other kinds of general fishing regulations HERE.
The short answer is YES, you will need a fishing license with one caveat.
Lake Arrowhead State Park is in fact one of the 70+ state parks in Texas where you can fish from pier or shore – no license required!
It’s also good to know, for those of you bringing family along, that children under the age of 16 do not require a fishing license.
If you want to go beyond the shores of a state park and fish from a boat, you will need a license which can be procured at local Wal-marts, sporting goods stores, bait shops, or by any other retailer you are able to find by clicking HERE or the search box below.
Please do your part here and everywhere else to keep OUR waterways clean!
There are also other cool services out there such as fishidy.com to optimize your adventure!
Okay, so we have talked about the wildlife and regulations to abide by should you desire to interact with nature’s “children”.
We are not done letting you know what else they have to offer!
As of today’s knowledge, Lake Arrowhead State Park is currently the ONLY park within the Texas Parks & Wildlife program with a Disc Golf Course!
NIIIICCE!!
Below are some suggested items to bring with you for your outdoor adventure:
- Binoculars
- Day pack filled with snacks and goodies
- Note book for writing down experiences to be shared with others later
- Water bottle with plenty in reserve
- Camera – tripod, etc.
- Disc’s for disc golf course
- A horse if you have one
- Fishing gear
- And of course, camping gear if you will be staying overnight
ADMITTANCE FEES
I should not fail to mention admittance fees and my personal method for exploring Texas State Park’s on whim.
To avoid, unexpected expenditures and to accommodate the fact that I visit Texas State Parks on a regular basis. I bite the $70 bullet, and invest in the annual pass.
I have done this for about 3 years in a row now and must say, it makes visiting state parks all the more appealing when I know I can spontaneously make a decision to go while offering free entry to as many friends as I can fit in my car as well!
There are additional types of passes offered by the state for:
- Seniors
- Veterans
- Disabled
- Youth
You can find out more about these and others by going HERE. Or if you would rather save some time and just get your annual pass on its way, you can purchase one by going HERE.
WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO KNOW?
I would say at this point, I only need to know what else is around me such as closest “natural” civilization, watering hole, and supermarket. Some others might afford the ability to even spend more time in the area than I was able allowing them to see what the Texas town of Wichita Falls is all about.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
RIVER BEND NATURE CENTER
2200 3rd St, Wichita Falls, TX
THE FALLS IN LUCY PARK
Sunset Drive, Wichita Falls, TX
PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING HALL OF FAME
712 8th St, Wichita Falls, TX
If all this, hasn’t gotten you excited to be in Texas yet don’t worry! You aren’t too far from Oklahoma which is a beautiful state all of its own.
We hope to be able to share some of our experiences with you there and many more locations to come!
